The RYA Level 2 power boat course is the certificate of competency for motor boat driving that is required by the RYA Instructors as a minimum qualification. It is a basic level of proficiency for driving a motor boat in practical and theoretical terms to allow one to operate a power boat safely. From this beginning you then add experience.
The RYA level 2 or equivalent standard for the ICC (International Certiciate of Competence) with additional coastal theory and understanding is also required by most European countries as a minimum for driving powerboats or to be able to hire a motor boat. Those foreign countries will normally ask for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC see below)
The Level 2 powerboat course has a maximum ratio of 3 students to 1 Instructor and is run in RIB’s (Rigid Inflatable Boats).
A huge amount of material is covered including the practical driving skills of the motor boat – both high–speed and low–speed, close–quarters power boat handling, and some theory. At the end of the course you will be able to complete the Level 2 practical motor boat–handling test. It is imperative that we get to speak to you so that we can get an idea of your previous experience.
