RYA Safety Boat Course

RYA Safety Boat Course on our large London reservoir just west of London’s Heathrow airport overlooking Windsor Castle.

Course duration:

  • 2 days £309 per person (pre–requisite: L2 Powerboat)

This Powerboat and motor safety boat  course is designed to introduce the techniques used in powerboats to escort fleets of racing dinghies, windsurfers, canoes, providing safety cover at sailing centres or assisting with race management. Session covering motor boat–handling techniques will be combined with practical instruction in recovering and towing capsized dinghies, cats, windsurfers and disabled powerboats. Shore based sessions will include suitability of craft, safety, communications systems and rescuing other water users. Essential for anyone wanting to work in the watersports industry.

Motor Boat International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

Even people who have been using powerboats and motor boats for some time find that they now need an ICC. It is an internationally recognised motor boat licence that is normally required in order to hire a powerboat or even use your own motor boat when abroad. The powerboat certificate, which is available from the RYA on successful completion of a level 2 powerboat course with an extra ICC theory session is now becoming a requirement as proof of competence for motor boat driving the world over.

The assessment tests practical motor boat driving ability and theoretical knowledge to National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 including tidal knowledge, pilotage and basic meterology. and can sometimes be completed in half a day. However, depending on the individual’s experience and theoretical knowledge, it could take a whole day.

The ICC can also be done as 1⁄2 day assessment for experienced powerboat drivers – £309
